CTE Month Highlights...Teaching & Training with Mrs. Powell! The Education and Training Career Cluster focuses on planning, managing, and providing education and training services and related learning support services. In the first year, students use self-knowledge as well as educational and career information to analyze various careers in Education and Training. In the 2nd year, students examine human development across the lifespan including common physical, cognitive, emotional, and social developmental milestones. In the 3rd and 4th years, students complete an internship in a lower level classroom (elementary or junior high) where they learn to plan and direct individualized instruction and group activities, prepare instructional materials, develop materials for educational environments, assist with record keeping, and complete other responsibilities of teachers, trainers, paraprofessionals, or other educational personnel. CTE Month Highlights...Culinary Arts with Mrs. Powell Culinary Arts begins with the fundamentals and principles of the art of cooking and the science of baking and includes management and production skills and techniques. Students can pursue a national sanitation certification or other appropriate industry certifications. Courses are offered as a classroom and laboratory-based course. The lab gives students hands-on experience cooking, cleaning, managing the kitchen, and other essential jobs to the industry. People are often surprised to find that there is much, much more that goes into working in the culinary industry than just cooking. While students get to spend plenty of time cooking (and eating) delicious food, they also learn management, planning, sanitation laws, and essentially how to run a business, which is what our CTE program is all about. CTE Month Highlights...Construction with Mr. Smith! The Construction program of study is focused on the process and skills of building homes. Students begin by working in a lab setting learning to use construction tools. They will build some small items like a jewelry box, and an end table to help them become proficient craftspeople. There will be some study in architecture, design, and the processes that make up the planning and management phases of a construction project. The goal for each student is to become knowledgeable in the construction codes and be capable of demonstrating the skills of appropriate tool use through the process of building a small structure. Students can expect rigorous classwork and challenging hands-on building experiences throughout the program. The construction industry is in desperate need of skilled craftspeople to repair and maintain this nation’s infrastructure. Construction students work hard so that they can join the workforce after high school with the ability to build the houses, businesses and sturdy structures of this nation.

CTE Month Highlights....Engineering with Mr. Smith In the engineering program of study, students can expect rigorous classwork and challenging lab projects. They will design, draw and use CNC machines and 3D printers to create prototypes. First year students will learn to use Sketchup and AutCAD design softwares to create robotic arms, tower cranes and CO2 powered cars. Advanced students will develop competition projects related to Drones, Mobile Robotics and Arduino Electronics. A team of advanced students compete every year in a UIL robotics competition and an underwater Robotic challenge sponsored by NASA. Students can expect to do work with concepts and equipment they have never seen before and solve problems they have never encountered before. That is the nature of engineering. By the end of the program, students will have become familiar with AutoCAD, Python and Arduino Computer code and the Engineering Design and problem solving process. The next greatest innovations will come from a creative engineering mind. This program is perfect for our students who enjoy working with their hands, problem solving, and building confidence as an engineer. Post & Pics by Mr. Smith's Digital Communications Class
