Dear Luling ISD Community,

I am writing to inform you that Luling, like most districts across the state, is experiencing an increase in threats made by students. It is essential to address such situations promptly and transparently, and I want to provide you with an overview of how our schools handle such incidents.

As long as I have been Superintendent, we have always maintained ongoing communication with families, as it relates to credible threats. Not all threats are credible. Additionally, not everything posted on social media about incidents occurring at our schools are true. 

Our primary concern is the safety and well-being of all students and staff members, and we take all threats seriously. I want to reassure you that our district has established protocols and procedures in place to respond to such incidents in a thorough and responsible manner.

When an administrator is notified of a threat, an investigation begins immediately. If the threat involves a weapon, the appropriate law enforcement agency is notified and we cooperate fully with any criminal investigation. Each campus has a designated Threat Assessment Team that convenes to identify, evaluate, and address all potential threats. The team reviews multiple sources of evidence, including witness statements, current and prior behavior, reports from law enforcement, mental health information, etc. Depending on the findings of the investigation, appropriate disciplinary actions are always taken.  Again, this process is implemented every time we are made aware of a threat.

It is important to educate our students about the impact of their words and actions on others.    As the parents and guardians of our students, you can help by having conversations with your child about the seriousness of threats, verbal and implied, and the importance of telling an administrator if they become aware of a threat.

Reporting threats can be done anonymously using links on the district website, or directly online at: iwatchtx.org or by calling 844-643-2251. The report takes less than 5 minutes.

Les escribo para informarles que Luling, como la mayoría de los distritos en todo el estado, está experimentando un aumento en las amenazas hechas por los estudiantes. Es esencial hacer frente a este tipo de situaciones con prontitud y transparencia, y quiero ofrecerles una visión general de cómo nuestras escuelas manejan este tipo de incidentes.

Desde que soy Superintendente, siempre hemos mantenido una comunicación continua con las familias, en lo que se refiere a amenazas creíbles. No todas las amenazas son creíbles. Además, no todo lo que se publica en las redes sociales sobre incidentes ocurridos en nuestras escuelas es cierto. 

Nuestra principal preocupación es la seguridad y el bienestar de todos los estudiantes y miembros del personal, y nos tomamos en serio todas las amenazas. Quiero asegurarles que nuestro distrito ha establecido protocolos y procedimientos para responder a este tipo de incidentes de manera exhaustiva y responsable.

Cuando se notifica una amenaza a un administrador, se inicia inmediatamente una investigación. Si la amenaza implica el uso de un arma, se notifica a las autoridades competentes y cooperamos plenamente con cualquier investigación penal. Cada campus tiene designado un Equipo de Evaluación de Amenazas que se reúne para identificar, evaluar y abordar todas las amenazas potenciales. El equipo examina múltiples fuentes de pruebas, como declaraciones de testigos, comportamiento actual y anterior, informes de las fuerzas del orden, información sobre salud mental, etc. En función de los resultados de la investigación, siempre se toman las medidas disciplinarias oportunas. Una vez más, este proceso se aplica cada vez que tenemos conocimiento de una amenaza.

Es importante educar a nuestros alumnos sobre el impacto de sus palabras y acciones en los demás. Como padres y tutores de nuestros alumnos, pueden ayudar manteniendo conversaciones con sus hijos sobre la gravedad de las amenazas, verbales e implícitas, y la importancia de informar a un administrador si tienen conocimiento de una amenaza.

La denuncia de amenazas se puede hacer de forma anónima utilizando los enlaces en el sitio web del distrito, o directamente en línea en: iwatchtx.org o llamando al 844-643-2251. El reporte toma menos de 5 minutos.

 Dear Luling ISD Community,

I am excited to welcome everyone back for the 2023-24 school year! Tomorrow is our first day and the Luling ISD Team is ready!

Our dedicated staff have been working diligently all summer creating engaging lessons, preparing enriching activities, and designing curriculum that fosters both academic achievement and personal growth. We have also been working hard to get our buildings and classrooms ready! Our goal is to create vibrant communities that thrive on collaboration and active learning. Your partnership is invaluable, and together, we can create an environment where every child feels prepared, empowered, and inspired to learn.

Communication is the foundation of our partnership, and we encourage you to stay engaged and informed. From regular updates about school events and activities to opportunities for parent-teacher conferences, we want to keep the lines of communication open to ensure the best possible experience for your child. Our district website has an Events section that has all of the current and upcoming events across the district.

We also recognize that each student is unique, with their own strengths and challenges. If your child requires additional support or accommodations, please don't hesitate to reach out to their teacher and campus administration. We are here to work together to meet the diverse needs of all our students.

While the academic support of our child is a priority, please know that we also support each student’s social and emotional health. We have a dynamic counseling team with a dedicated Social-Emotional Counselor that works with students at all campuses. We have an ‘Anonymous Report’ button at the top of the district and campus websites that allow students or adults to report bullying, suicidal, or unsafe behavior. There is also an ‘iWatchTexas’ button that enables anyone to report a concern about school safety directly to law enforcement. We rely on our students, and our parents, to keep us informed if they hear or see something concerning. Social media allows for many faceless comments, warnings and threats. Please continue to remind your students to immediately report any concerning social media posts, comments, or behavior to their teacher or campus administrator.

¡Estoy emocionada de darles la bienvenida a todos para el año escolar 2023-24! ¡Mañana es nuestro primer día y el equipo de Luling ISD está listo!

Nuestro personal dedicado ha estado trabajando diligentemente todo el verano creando lecciones atractivas, preparando actividades enriquecedoras, y diseñando el plan de estudios que fomenta tanto el logro académico como el crecimiento personal. ¡También hemos estado trabajando duro para tener nuestros edificios y aulas listos! Nuestro objetivo es crear comunidades vibrantes que prosperen en la colaboración y el aprendizaje activo. Su colaboración es inestimable y juntos podemos crear un entorno en el que cada niño se sienta preparado, capacitado e inspirado para aprender.

La comunicación es la base de nuestra asociación, y le animamos a mantenerse comprometido e informado. Desde actualizaciones regulares sobre eventos y actividades escolares hasta oportunidades para conferencias de padres y maestros, queremos mantener las líneas de comunicación abiertas para asegurar la mejor experiencia posible para su hijo. Nuestro sitio web del distrito tiene una sección de Eventos que tiene todos los eventos actuales y próximos en todo el distrito.

También reconocemos que cada estudiante es único, con sus propias fortalezas y desafíos. Confiamos en que nuestros alumnos, y nuestros padres, nos mantengan informados si oyen o ven algo preocupante. Las redes sociales permiten muchos comentarios, advertencias y amenazas sin rostro. Por favor, sigan recordando a sus alumnos que informen inmediatamente a su profesor o al administrador del campus de cualquier publicación, comentario o comportamiento preocupante en las redes sociales.
