We are proud of our school counselors and their dedication to our students!

Over the next several weeks during guidance lessons students will learn how to help manage their emotions which can improve relationships and academic performance. This week introduces the relationship between the “thinking part” and the “feeling part” of the brain. When emotions are really strong it can be difficult to use the “thinking part” of the brain and emotions can run the show unless steps are taken to calm down.

Congratulations to Mrs. Humphries, our February “Spotlight Staff Member of the Month”! Mrs. Humphries is hard working and goes above and beyond the call of duty. She is very positive and caring to all of the students at Shanklin. Thank you for all that you do!

TODAY

Students have been learning about empathy, which is understanding how others feel. This week’s guidance lesson teaches students how to move from not only feeling empathy but taking action and showing compassion toward others. Saying something kind or asking someone if they need help are two simple ways students have been challenged to show compassion for others and foster an inclusive school environment.

REMINDER

This is a great time to practice the self-management skill of intentionality. Challenge your students to be intentional by creating a social-emotional learning At Home: #GOAL list for this new year!

The City of Luling, St. David's Foundation, Kaboom, and Luling ISD students worked to create an amazing new playscape at Blanche Square Park! We are so proud of our students and their collaboration with the wonderful people that made this happen for our city.
