Luling ISD Campuses Closed Indefinitely

March 18, 2020

Given the rapidly evolving situation with COVID-19, Luling ISD will extend the suspension of
normal district operations indefinitely in an effort to support our nation’s need to slow the spread
of the coronavirus. Setting an arbitrary date for students to return is not practical, as we will
certainly have to continue extending this closure. It is my intent to reopen schools as soon as
we are given clearance by local, state, and/or federal health agencies. This means that our
school year may include the summer months.

We want you to know that our students and staff are always our top priority. Therefore, as a
district, we were prepared to make the necessary decisions to ensure the safety of students and
staff, as well as to continue the quality education you have come to expect from Luling ISD.
Based on the best interest of our entire school community, we have made the decision to enact
measures that will ensure continued learning during this closure.

The district has worked to put an instructional learning plan in place during the closure. Learning
will continue at home beginning Monday, March 23. Each week, we plan to release new
instructional resources for each grade level. Families can find these academic resources on the
district’s website on the COVID19 tab under #LulingLearns.

Elementary and Junior High students (grades PreK - 8) may participate in either paper
assignments and/or online assignments. High School students (grades 9-12) will participate in
online learning via teacher webpages or google classroom.

Paper copies of these assignments will also be available for pick-up at Central Office during the
following days and times: Mondays (8am-2pm), Tuesdays (8am-6pm), Wednesdays (8am-2pm),
Thursdays (8am-6pm), and Fridays (8am-2pm).

Serving our students, families and community is of the utmost importance to us. We understand
that parents may have questions during this time, however we want to ensure that we are
protecting our staff from exposure. Phones will be answered at Central Office Monday-Friday
from 8am-3pm. Campus offices will be open Mondays from 8am-4pm. All staff are checking and
responding to emails daily.

In an effort to better understand and support the needs of our community, we are asking a few
questions related to Luling ISD students' collective ability to access technology outside of
school. We fully recognize the irony of using an online survey to gather this information. Please
be assured that survey responses will be coupled with additional data collected using 'offline'
methods to inform our decisions and plans of action. Access and share this survey

We are committed to providing free meals for our students. Free “grab and go” style meals for
students ages 18 and under will be provided at the high school cafeteria. Students can pick up
breakfast from 7am to 9am and lunch from 11am to 1pm, Monday through Friday.

We continue to keep you updated via our district social media platforms and on our website at so please check these sites daily. The District has provided a centralized
website that includes all online academic materials and information from the CDC and local
health officials to keep families informed on COVID-19 related information. Please go to the
COVID-19 page on our district website for resources.

This is a rapidly progressing situation that changes quickly. We understand that we will face
many challenges, and we are grateful for your support and cooperation as we work together to
keep Luling ISD safe.
