LISD School Board Raises Staff Pay and Adds Benefits

On June 17, 2019, the Luling ISD Board of Trustees approved the adoption of a new Teacher Salary Schedule for the 2019-20 school year.  The 2019-20 Teacher Salary Schedule provides an increase in pay for all teachers.  Full-time support staff, such as maintenance workers, custodians, paraprofessionals, and clerical staff, will receive wage increases of 5%.

The Board also voted to continue Retention Bonuses for teachers in critical needs areas.  Classroom teachers in STAAR-tested assignments will receive $7,500.  Teachers in critical needs areas, such as secondary science, Spanish, special education in Grades 3-12, reading intervention in Grades 3-5, will receive $3,750.

The Board elected to extend Signing Bonuses for teaching candidates in critical needs areas.  Signing Bonuses of $5,000 will be offered to candidates selected to teach STAAR-tested assignments.  Signing Bonuses of $2,500 will be awarded to new teachers in other critical needs areas, such as secondary science, special education in Grades 3-12, reading intervention in Grades 3-5, and Spanish.

In addition, the Board chose to increase the district’s monthly contribution to employee health insurance.  This increase ensures that the base health insurance plan for an employee continues to be extended at no cost to the employee.

To provide a new benefit for all eligible employees, the Board passed a resolution to join the Texas Educational Employers Benefit Cooperative in order to provide a $10,000 Basic Life Insurance policy at no cost to the employee.  The coverage is not portable and covers the individual as long as he/she is employed by Luling ISD.  Employees have the option to purchase additional Group Life insurance for spouses and dependent children.

The new salary schedule, retention and signing bonuses, and insurance offerings are evidence of the Board’s continuing efforts to improve employee benefits.  The LISD Board of Trustees will continue to analyze employee pay rates in order to provide competitive compensation levels that best serve LISD employees and their families.
