Beginning with the 2015-2016 school year, the Luling ISD School Board established a goal to reduce utility costs through energy conservation efforts. To accomplish this goal, all staff worked to adjust their thermostats, and monitor the use of lights, computers and all other energy conserving devices. In 2015-2016, the district saved over $59,000 as compared to the 2014-2015 school year. This was an 18.45% decrease in utility costs.
The goal remained in place for the 2016-2017 school year and although there is more of a challenge in year two, as many efficiencies have already taken place, Luling ISD continues to see improvement. We are projecting an additional $15,000 savings for this school year or an additional 5.7% decrease in utility costs.
Luling ISD would like to thank all staff for their efforts and ask that they continue to be conservative when it comes to utilities usage. Meeting this goal allows us to redirect these financial resources into the classroom.
