Food nutrition guidelines

  • FMNV’s (Foods of Minimal Nutritional Value) are not allowed to be provided to students any time anywhere until after the end of the last scheduled class.  All vending machines will have timers that will not turn on until after 3:30 PM each school day.
  • The 3 district-wide events scheduled by district officials that campuses can allow the students and teachers to serve FMNV’s are:  Christmas Parties on December 18th, Valentine Parties on February 12th, and the last day of school parties on June 3rd.
  • Foods restricted by policy (FMNV’s) are permitted at student birthday parties.  It is recommended such parties be scheduled after the lunch period so that these celebrations will not replace a nutritious lunch.
  • Foods of Minimal Nutritional Value (FMNV’s) include:  soda water (includes any carbonated beverage), water ices (frozen, sweetened water such as popsicles), chewing gum, any processed foods made predominantly from sweeteners including hard candy, jellies and gums, marshmallow candies, fondants, licorice, spun candy and candy-coated popcorn.  FMNV’s also include homemade and prepackaged candy or dessert items (cookies, cakes, cupcakes, pudding, ice cream, or frozen desserts.
  • Please refer to the Texas Department of Agriculture website at www.squaremeals.org for more information on the Texas Public School Nutrition Policy Implementation Schedule.
